Mask wearing in Austria and Germany

Where are masks required? For instance, the English Garden Park in Munich is outdoor. The MarienPlatz in Munich is outdoors. Boat trips on the Bodensee, Lake Constance.

Here is a chart, recently updated, for regulations in the two German states and the 3 nearby countries surrounding Bodensee.

EDIT: We have a friend currently traveling in Bavaria who says masks are required indoors and on public transportation regardless of your vaccine status. He said the EU approved mask, FFP2, is required but he sometimes wears his medical masks. He is mainly staying in small towns visiting his family. He said the EU masks are easy to get once you are there.

EDIT 2: This is the main ferry for Bodensee and their requirements for Corona. You will need to put into Google translate or something similar. This is the ferry we used most often 2 years ago.

I don’t have an answer, but I do have a suggestion. If you plan on masks being required everywhere, then it will simply be a pleasant surprise when they are not. I think you should start with the mindset that masks will be required.

I like Carol's suggestion.
With things changing nearly daily, it really doesn't matter what anybody says today. Keep masks handy and proceed.

There's always a difference between what is required and what people actually do, isn't there? We currently have an indoor mask requirement in my city, that is being pretty much ignored. I have a friend who just returned from >30 days in Germany (SW and Bodensee area), who tells me that he estimated >90% of people were masked up.

Have an approved FFP2 mask with you at all times. These can be purchased at most grocery stores and pharmacies. Different regions change, but with COVID frequency increasing better prepared. Be ready to wear a mask on any public transport, and into the establishment/store and to the restroom of any restaurant and café in or outside. Hotels vary. I would recommend you get the CDC vaccination proof transferred to a International Certificate of Vaccination. If you can at a pharmacy (Germany), get your data into the COVPass App (EU Digital COVID Certificate).

mchpp--thanks for the info.

My questions:
1. The CovPass app website states that the app is for German residents. Can American tourists use it too? Can I use it with, say, a hotel address?

  1. Does it recognize thee CDC card?

  2. I will get my rental car in Germany. Before this, can I walk into a pharmacy and get this set up?

Thank you very much.

Last week our friend who has a US and German passport was told in two pharmacies in Bavaria that he couldn’t get a digital pass for his CDC card. Instead he fills out a form or uses the LUCA app for contact tracing and shows his CDC card when he eats at restaurants, etc.
