Mariazell and train

Is it worth taking the train to Mariazell and staying overnight? I will be visiting Austria in end of February and train looks interesting but it would eat up 2 days. Has anyone been there or taken this train before? If so, what side of the train should I sit on? Thanks.

The train ride is very scenic, but I would not stay overnight. The town of Mariazell is worth visiting, especially the cathedral.

From Vienna there are high-speed trains to St. Pölten (a ride of about 20 minutes), where the trains to Mariazell depart. So going both ways is doable as a day trip.

If you are a railway aficionado look out for trains to Mariazell powered by the original electric locomotive from 1910.
