Luggage and Layover at VIE

Hello,

I have a question that I believe I know the answer to, but have so much self-doubt that it's gnawing at me. My wife and I will be traveling from the US East coast to Zagreb in mid-September, with an 1 hour 40 min layover at VIE (all on one ticket). I am somewhat concerned about the short amount of time going through customs. However, we will be using the mobility assistance service provided by Austrian Airlines, so I have some faith that they won't leave us stranded. What I don't know is whether the airline will handle the transfer of our checked bag (1 between us), or do we have to grab it before we go through EES? i apologize for the newb question, but can anyone give me a definitive answer? I'd also like your opinions as to whether my faith in the airline is justified.

Thank you for your help.

Safe travels,

Mark

Just make sure that when you check in at your starting airport in the US, the clerk labels it correctly for Zagreb.

You won't be going through customs in Vienna. Only passport control. And EES is for immigration, not customs.

Remember, immigration/passport control is for people, customs is for goods (and luggage.) In Schengen, you go through passport control at your first destination and customs at your final one. (Assuming one ticket.)

Adding to the chorus that you will go through immigration in Vienna but customs in Zagreb.

You will NOT collect your bag in Vienna, so one less thing to worry about.

The Vienna airport is efficient and not that huge, so making this transfer should be seamless, assuming flights are on time.

We used mobility assistance (in Budapest and LHR) for the first time recently, and were amazed how efficient it was, getting us through without waiting in lines. Hopefully, it is the same in Vienna.
