Lovely Three Lakes tour in the Tannheimer Tal

For a long time I never said anything to anyone about the Tannheimer Tal. It is virtually unknown in the English speaking world, yet an easy shot from Munich and just 30 minutes from Fussen. But lately I have figured that as the Tannheimer Tal works really hard to market itself as an alpine destination for visitors, it's okay to switch course and sing some praises. No need to hoard it ;)

This is a great video of one of the set hikes out of Tannheim, the Drei Seen/Three Lake loop. German language, but you don't need English to catch the vibe. A gondola ride chops off much of the up. Or if you don't like the down, you can walk the other direction. Or walk it all. Plenty of mountain huts and restaurants to stop along the way.

So many other lovely hikes and great stuff to do in this valley (the place has all of the awesome Alpine stuff, much working ag and traditional culture, all kinds of nice accommodations of different types). But I just thought that this video in particular shows some good overviews of the area, and does a good job of illustrating that you don't need to be in the absolutely most premier scenic areas of the Alps to enjoy really pretty mountain views and environments. :)

The Alps in Vorarlberg in June is one of my favorite places in Austria. You will need time and a car. It's pretty easy to get around basing out of one location. For hikers and nature lovers you won't want for nothing. Two of my favorites are the Lech Valley (Lechtal) and the Silber Valley (Silbertal Montafon).

mchpp - in addition to Tirolean Tannheimer Tal, I too am also a fan of Vorarlberg, also an under-visited part of the Alps by North America tourists speaking tourists.

In addition to the Silbertal and the Lech area, Shruns (just over the mountain from Silbertal) is a great spot. Nice village with some cool public amenities, good hiking too. It was Ernest Hemingway's favorite place to go skiing in the Alps. It's also the last stop on the train line of that valley, so if you don't want to use buses or rent a car, it's a good call.
