Little heads up on the Spanish Riding School this month

The stallions are on their summer break, so the SRS switches to their Piber Meets Vienna program where they showcase their broodmares and foals and give info on the breeding program. Info about that is on their website, of course.

But, in addition to the official program, every afternoon from 5 to 6 (when the weather is good), the mares and foals are walked over to the Burggarten and turned loose in part of the park. Their handlers are standing by to keep an eye on things and will answer questions. Anyone can stop by to enjoy watching the mares and foals just being horses.

It would be amazing to see the mares and their foals running loose in the park! Wish I had a trip scheduled....

Is this something new? This is really a great idea. For Lipizzaner lovers, a visit to Piber is also highly recommended. As an aside, in fall 1992, when we were living in Vienna, the Lipizzaners were removed from the stables and taken to the Burggarten - by passersby in the middle of the night - because the Hofburg had caught on fire!

Relatively new, yes. Two years, I think?
I think it's a combination of good marketing and horsekeeping. ;-)
If visitors cannot make the trip out to Piber, this is a nice alternative.

Robert, I have been told the evacuation due to the fire was to the Volksgarten? But probably horses were all over that part of the city!

@Zonderpaard: You are probably correct about the Volksgarten vs. the Burggarten. It was 24 years ago. Just remember a "nearby park".
