Leisurely Biking: Melk or Hallstatt?

I'm wanting to spend one morning or afternoon renting a bike and meandering along, preferably seeing beautiful nature, quaint towns, etc. Would you recommend Melk or somewhere in the Lakes region near Salzburg as more preferable here?

Personally, I prefer the scenery and towns in the St. Wolfgangsee region of Salzburg over Melk. You could hop on the ferry with your bike for a portion of your trip.
