Late train and missed connection--- what to do?

We are on the train now from Ljubljana to Vienna, with a train change at Salzburg ( not Villach). The schedule shows 20 minutes to transfer at Salzburg, from Platform 3 to 4. Our train is running late and seems to be getting later at each stop--maybe because of all the rain.

If we miss our connection at Salzburg, what do we do? Do we just board the next train to Vienna? Or do we need to see an agent to change our ticket first?

The ticket we have is a Sparpreis ticket for four people in first class, if that matters. It is " non-changeable" but I assume if we miss the connection because of a late incoming train there is a solution possible.

I don't have an answer but I feel your frustration and anxiety. Is there a member of staff on the train who can provide any answers?

I'd take it as it comes when you get to Salzburg. Your connection may be late too. Or see a staff member on the platform or if none try the travel centre.

Thanks, Nigel! We seem to have made up time since I first posted. We are at Villach adding cars, and may be departing here on time. But if we start running really late again I will ask the conductor what to do.
