Last minute Vienna hotel?

I found reasonable airfare to Vienna and would like to visit the Christmas markets with my wife and two 18 year old kids. The wife is balking because of cost of lodging.

Any suggestions on a less expensive hotel or apartment for fiver nights around the middle of December that She Who Must be Obeyed can live with?

What is the price level she is balking at? What price, in Euro, is max? Scan Trip Advisor and Hotel.com and set your limits.

There are several affordable places to stay around downtown Vienna. My last trip I used Motel One. A German chain that would be like a Best Western or maybe a little nicer. It ran about 85 Euros a night. It is a block off the ring road. Just two blocks or so to the art museum, palace, and a subway station. Nice neighborhood with grocery stores and restaurants nearby.

We would arrive on Friday Dec 13 and Leave on Wednesday Dec 18. If I could get lodging for around 200 Euros per night it is doable

You can try Pension A and A-great location but I imagine they're already booked-I made my reservation for Sept 10 months in advance

I do my lodging research on booking.com. There are good filters to screen out places not meeting some of your basic requirements. There are lots of reviews to read. After I make a choice, I check the website of the property itself to see whether I can get a better deal there.

Pay attention to cancellation policies; they vary from property to property, and sometimes one hotel has both flexible and non-cancellable options.

Go to booking.com and put in your dates, choose 4 adults, select €100-200 and Apartments. I saw a few out there within your budget with good review ratings.

Parks 73 Townhouse Hotel is within your budget on booking.com. Great location.

Ibis Wien City is also available and within budget on Booking.com. Good location too.

At the suggestion of k2wilde, I booked Motel One Wien-Staatsoper, 2 rooms for 270 Euros per night with rights of cancellation. After that, I received a reply from Pension Suzanne for 200 euros per night for a quad room, breakfast 10 Euros each extra. Then I looked at Booking.Com as suggested here and found what appear to be nice apartments at 200 per night or less.

With several rooms available, I went back to book the flights only to find that they went up 40% from yesterday!! I guess I will wait until mid week to book the flight and then go back to booking.com or to Pension Suzanne for accommodations.

Somehow, with your GREAT help, I will work this out and enjoy Vienna at Christmas time.

Make sure to delete all your cookies before booking your flights. The booking systems record what you had been searching for, giving them the opportunity to raise the prices if they register repeated interest in a certain flight.

My suggestion is to set up Google Flights Alerts in order to receive notices of changes in the prices of your designated flights.
Safe travels and have a wonderful trip!
