Karlskirche Vienna

Hello! Myself and 15 year old daughter are traveling to Vienna in May 2017. We are looking forward to attending an evening concert at Karlkirche. I recently read an article that at night, this area is frequented by drug addicts and is not very safe. Since we are two women walking in an unfamiliar city at night, I want to be sure that we avoid any areas that are known to be unsafe. Does any one know if the area around Karlskirche is unsafe at night or was I reading an article that was untrue?

I live very close to there and walk or cycle thru the park with some regularity, night and day. Alone and female. :-) I think Karlskirche is my favorite church--it is beautiful and in a beautiful setting.

Some years ago, the Karlsplatz U-bahn station was a bit rough. I think that is what gave the area a bad reputation. Nowadays, it is fine. I think there was some 'housecleaning' at Karlsplatz. Yes, there are some homeless folks around, but nothing problematic. They are usually just sleeping in the station. IMO Praterstern and some of the stations on the U6 (Handelskai) are a bit sketchy (but still nothing to be fearful about).

Use some common sense and if by chance your 'spidey sense' tells you something is off, then pay attention. But that goes for any city, really. Vienna is very safe. You and your daughter will have a great time!

You are most welcome. Which concert are you going to? I've been to the requiem played on historic instruments there, and really enjoyed it. So lovely.

We are planning to see Vivaldi's Four Seasons. We feel like seeing one of the concerts at this church will be a highlight of the trip. I have also read about the concerts at St Anna's. Those seem wonderful also and we hope to see one there as well!

Vienna is a very safe city. No problems walking in the night or using public transport.

Pickpockets are rather annoying, especially when it is crowded.
