I am going to both of these cities in July 2015 and I love to run. I find that running through different locales really helps you get the flavor of an area. Does anyone know if there are any good trails or areas to run in these cities. Thanks in advance.

The area south of the Salzburg citadel - places like the Leopoldskron castle or the area around Hellbrunn look like an immense park with walking and cycling routes.

Four ideas for Vienna -
1. The Ring
2. Hauptallee at the Prater
3. Belvedere Garden
4. Schonbrunn Palace grounds
You will see joggers in all four of these locations. It is unusual and difficult (because of traffic lights, trams, people, etc) to just run on the street here.
