Jennerbahn and full Konigsee boat trip in one day?

We will be leaving our B & B 4 miles south of Salzburg and driving to the Konigssee in May of 2016. Do we have enough time to do the full boat ride to Salet, the hike to Obersee and return to the Seelande....and also do the Jennerbahn up to the peak lookout? We would probably do the Jennerbahn in the morning if the weather is good. We must be able to drive to Reutte before dark. Is this itinerary possible?

It's nearly a 4 hour drive to Reutte.

The Konigssee boat trip gets very crowded, very early. If you wait until after the Jennerbahn, you could wait all day. Do the Konigssee boat trip as early as possible, and then leave for Reutte. Hopefully you didn't pick Reutte soley on Rick Steve's recommendation. Instead of doing the Jennerbahn, do the Zugspitze trip from Ehrwald, Austria, very close to Reutte. More impressive views from the Zugspitze.

Thanks Paul:
I have been getting time estimates of 3 hours 11 min to 3 hours 23 minutes going via the A8 South of Munich. Nice to find out that it is more like 4 hours. I chose Reutte because of the scenery and getting a room at Pension Waldrast with a view of Ehrenberg ruins within walking distance. My Grandmother was born in Schongau with lots of ties to Austria. Is there a problem with Reutte? We are actually closer to Ehenbichl that Reutte proper.
Is snow a problem in mid May up on the Zugspitze?

Thanks for your input

I'd plan on a 4 hour drive. What you're seeing are optimum drive times. Non stop, no traffic, no wrong turns, etc. We like going via Innsbruck and the Fern Pass. The scenery gets outstanding near Innsbruck and then towards Reutte and the "Zugspitze Arena". I have no problem with Reutte, just that RS recommends it and we visited twice and didn't see it as a place we'd like to stay. We stayed in Fuessen on two different trips. You may have snow on top of the Zugspitze. That wouldn't pose any problems though.

for what its worth we managed to fit in a trip up to eagle nest, then drove down and did konigssee lake ride then finished the day of by driving the rossfeld road. wow , what a day !! up early and back home late. we stayed in berchtesgaden , so distances were not great.
we did the sugspitze on another part of that trip. the views and experience from eagles nest were very similar.

Reutte is a location that nobody would ever talk about had Rick Steves not promoted it. It's a very ordinary, unremarkable town in a region filled with extra-ordinary, remarkable towns.

"... in a region filled with extra-ordinary, remarkable towns"

Pfronten, only a few km from Reutte, just over the border in Germany, is quite remarkable! After being impressed when passing through it several times on my way by bus from the Oberallgäu to Füssen, I finally spent two nights there in 2009 and came back in 2013. It's actually not a single town, but a collection of twelve or so tiny villages (Ried, Steinach, Weisbach, etc) that grew together into one municipality. Just look at the place I stayed in the last time.

The Gasthof Aggenstein looks delightful. We are a family of 3 adults so finding rooms can be a problem. We are staying between Reutte and Ehenbichl at the Pension Waldrast. http://www.waldrasttirol.com/
How is the restaurant at the Gasthof Aggenstein?
How is the Cheese at Pfronter Kase Alp?

Where is the best Baeckerei in the area?
I do want to get to Schongau ( my grandmothers home town) but a side trip to this area would be possible.

Thanks for the heads up.
