Austria Itinerary Tweaking

Hi All

We are in the process of finalizing our itinerary and the plan so far is below. We are trying to decide where to locate an additional night - Kaprun or Salzburg. Currently the additional night is in Salzburg but that is flexible.

  • 20 to 23 May in Vienna (flight arrives at 12:30)
  • 24 and 25 May in St. Gilgen with a car (visiting Mauthausen after leaving Vienna)
  • 26 May in Kaprun with a car (hoping to drive the Grossglockner)
  • 27 to 29 May in Salzburg
  • 30 May to 2 June in Munich (flight departs at 11:50)

Do we have too much time allotted to Salzburg? I can add another night in Kaprun or keep three nights in Salzburg. We are staying at Pension Lindner in München and they do not have availability for 29 May. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you

In regards Salzburg, no, it's not too much time. 1 day is good for Salzburg itself.
Since you have a car, 30 minutes away is Berchtesgaden, alpine slides, the Konigssee, Jennerbahn cable car, Eagle's Nest, Rossfeld Panorama Road (very scenic drive above Berchtesgaden), Salt Mines in either Berchtesgaden or Hallein, Hohenwerfen Fortress, Werfen Ice Caves, etc.

Take a cruise on the Wolfgangsee while in St. Gilgen.

Stop and visit Ludwig's Herrenchiemsee Palace (Neues Schloss) on the way to Munich.
