Ideas please for a single woman traveling end of May in Austria. Fairly well traveled so feel secure getting around. After a Zurich visit I have 4 days - 3 nights before a tour in Vienna. And after Vienna tour have 4 nights - 5 days before flying home. Think of Innsbruck first is best after Zurich .? but are 3 nights too long in Innsbruck? And after Vienna would go to Salzburg for the 4/nights Again too long? I’d really want to get to country side and possible stay a night or 2 by a lake. Suggestions please for length of time in each city and easy access to charming towns outside cities for possibly a night or 2. And I’ve read many ideas but seems most are traveling by car where I’ll be taking a train and buses

Do you enjoy spa visits when you travel? You may want to investigate Austrian spa hotels for a night or two both before and after Vienna. Many are located on alpine lakes. If Melk isn't already on your itinerary, a day trip there from Vienna or a night's stay while on your way to Salzburg. Personally, I think 3 days is more than enough in Salzburg.

After Vienna four days in the Salzburg area is fine. You might want to spend at least one night at one of the nearby lakes.
