Itinerary Austria road trip

Hi,
I am planning a road trip from Cesky Krumlov to Bern passing through Salzburg and the Grossglockner Rd, Krimmler waterfall, Gerlos Alpine Rd. Will have rental car. Will do short hikes or short activities on route.
I was going to spend 1 night in St Gilgen at Wolfgang, 2 nights in Salzburg, 1 night around Heiligenblut, 2 nights in Innsbruck then drive to Bern via Silvretta High Alpine Rd.
My time is flexible so looking for advice.
Also I like rustic authentic lodging/ villages/ (but with some place to find food) so wondered if anyone has advice on lodging with character. Is Bregenz worth an overnight?
Also I assume you have to book in advance and can't decide last minute based on the weather.....
Thx for any advice you Austrian fans might have.

Just curious, what will the drop-off fee for your rental car be?

Yes, particularly where are you renting the car and where are you dropping it. If you rent a a car in Czechia, and drop it in Switzerland. It will have to be transported back to Czechia, and you will have to pay the cost of that, including the time the car is not available during transportation.

Also, I assume you know about getting Austrian and Swiss vignettes, and need for each driver to have an IDP.

Avis gave a rate that was good for the whole trip, with pick up in Czech and drop in Bern, didn't specify the drop off fee.
And no I didn't know I need IDL nor vignettes. I will look into that.
thx for the info

You will be there too early for the summer event we love and have been to 3 times. The Festspiele on the lake is from July 16- August 17 this year. Otherwise I can’t recommend the city of Bregenz as an authentic village.

Perfect example here of why contributors need to “school marm.”

Would the OP have figured out the IDP, vignettes and drop off fee on their own? Maybe, but unlikely.

If you want a little adventure from Krimml Falls, backtrack a few kilometers towards Wald im Pinzgau and take the Old Gerlos Strasse towards the Zillertal. No toll, and can be one lane in places. It merges eventually wth the Gerlos Strasse. You might consider an overnight in the Zillertal and spend some time there. We liked it here: https://www.hotel-berghaus.at/en
This will take you out of you way.
