Hi, all. Looking at maps, it seems as though we could leave Innsbruck, head south on 107 to the GHAR, and continue south to 106 to 100/E66, to A10, and then into Salzburg. This would be in late June. Is this route reasonable/doable in a day? It maps at about 6 1/2 hours, but I'm sure we'd be stopping a LOT for views, lunch, etc.
At this time of the year you have about 15 hours daylight, so you have a lot of time besides about 7 hours of driving.
You must decide, if you can do it in one day. Best would be to switch between two drivers from time to time.
Plan for traffic around Zell am See. The Grossglocknerstrasse can be a little bit of a work out. Berggasthaus Wallackhaus. Heiligenblut is nice for a stop. Pick a place a little south for the view (Hotel Rupertihaus). Seehäusl, Imbisshäußchen on 106 for a stop.
107? Head south to Italy and do all the Pustertal road (Brunico-S. Candido) to Lienz, then the Grossglockner. Be warned that Innsbruck to Lienz will already be three hours driving, but not difficult.
Generally speaking, I have alway found Innsbruck and Salzburg deceptively close. It always take more time than planned, even when taking the shortest route.
We did this trip but we broke it up to stay overnight within Hohe Tauern National Park, which also gave us time to do some hiking. If you have enough time in your trip I would suggest doing that so you can stop and appreciate all the views.
