Is Seefeld a good choice?

We had a wonderful trip to Austria last fall, largely because of the great advice we got on this forum. Our 3-week trip was spent in St. Gilgen and southern Styria. We felt we didn't have time for Vienna, which we want to correct for our next trip in Sept-Oct.. For hiking we thought Seefeld would be a great base for the first week or so, with lots of hiking opportunities (I'll be 83 then and limited to hikes of 10 km or less). We are thinking of not renting a car this time. Problem is finding reasonable accommodation. We found lovely little family-run hotels with views and breakfast for just over $200 Canadian per night last time but the hotel rates now seem to be astronomical. Lots of affordable options on Airbnb but I would prefer not to use it. So, I guess I would like comfirmation that Seefeld is indeed a good choice (another advantage is that we'll be flying into Munich and it's relatively close by train) and perhaps some hotel recommendations. Thank you!

I found your dates buried in the question - this is for 9 or 10 months out?

I normally book my Seefeld in Tirol fav, the Hotel Eden, a week or two ahead for May or June. Maybe you're too early?

Or are you looking for a particular date when something big is on there or nearby?

We're thinking of mid-Sept through eary October. So, the Seefeld portion would be mid-late September. That's pretty far in the future but I see from this forum that people are already making bookings for the fall. The Hotel Eden looks very tempting but at ca. $350/night is a bit pricey for us.

There are easy hikes in Seefeld like around the Wildsee and if you can make the hill Wildmoosalm. Of course when the mountain lifts are running up to the Seefelder Jochbahn. The last place we stayed was the Hotel Bergland. They have 4 for 3 night specials sometimes including half board. Are you looking at rates now or when you plan to visit?

We stayed in Seefeld a few years ago at hotel Egerthof, it was clean simple and had a good breakfast. You can also use the saunas for free.
We did multiple hikes around Seefeld and Mittenwald as well, there are many trails to choose from. We did not have a car either and it was easy to get from Munich on arrival and to Innsbruck afterwards.

We regularly visit Seefeld to hike (from Canada). They have extremely well maintained and signed walking trails with the added bonus of traditional restaurants at their end or along the way, great for a bite to eat or just a beverage. We always stay at Parkhotel Seefeld, which is a lovely family run hotel, a short walk from the town centre and train station. Seefeld offers a tourist card that allows the use of the local buses to get to nearby valleys for walks located there. In case you weren’t aware, Lufthansa has recently introduced a bus transfer from Munich airport to Innsbruck. You would need to put your flight destination as Innsbruck rather than Munich when booking (and as your starting point for the return journey). It is probably an easier way to get to Seefeld rather than using the train, which involves transfers. Details on the Innsbruck bus service and how it works are outlined on Lufthansa’s website. As Lufthansa is a member of Star Alliance, journey legs where they are the provider often come up as options when booking through Air Canada. Innsbruck airport is around a 30 minute drive from Seefeld, so you could easily take a taxi. Alternatively there is a local bus that runs from the airport to the Innsbruck train station and you can then catch the train up to Seefeld. Hope this helps.

I don't see those prices.

In mid-late September, rooms for 2 are from €187,20 per night. Bear in mind that the displayed price in BIG print is the price for the whole stay, the per night is in much >smaller< print.

Sundays and Mondays, and Tuesdays through Thursdays tend less expensive than Fridays and Saturdays.

EDIT - at Das Hotel Eden Seefeld

I was in Seefeld in mid September and stayed in AlpenParks Chalet and Apartments Alpina. I just checked on their website and saw rooms under US$200 in mid September 2026. We liked it, though we had an apartment. It’s in a very quiet area about 10 minutes max from the center of town and train station. Mostly a flat walk.

I haven't had time yet to check out all these suggestions but I really appreciate them. Thank you! I think what is wrong is not the price of accommodation, but the Canadian dollar! :(
