Yes, yes, yes! Salzburg is a unique and very picturesque city. It has history, culture, and scenery galore. It's a very walkable city - you can stroll through the cobblestone streets in the charming old town, or head for beautiful Mirabell Palace with its incredible gardens. It truly is a gem, and I would not hesitate to go back again. I stayed there for 3 nights and loved every minute of it. And fwiw, I did not do any Sound of Music tours (although you could if you are so inclined). But the Sound of Music is only a very small part of this wonderful city. It is definitely worth at least a 1-2 day stop (and I would definitely go for 2 days, so you have an overnight experience).

Absolutely. I’ve spent a total of 10 nights there and would return in a heartbeat. You’ll find more to do than you have time for and won’t be disappointed.

We spent 3 days in Salzburg this May before taking train to Ljubljana for RS Adriatic tour. Salzburg is a wonderful place to visit, historic old town surrounded by mountains with a river flowing through. Magical!

It's one I'd my face cities with picturesque streets and shops and of course Mozart. Nice parks and gorgeous buildings. I did do the Sound of music tour with friends and it was fun.

Absolutely. Get the RS pocket guidebook. It's one of our favorite European cities. Take the funicular to the castle for great views of the city, go into the cathedral about 11:40 - pay the 6Euro fee, and stay for the daily organ concert at Noon. Hire a day guide for great history info and Sound of Music trivia, see Mozarts home, so many great things to see. Also, Eagles Nest and the Salt Mine (w/fun train and slides into the mine) are great day trips too.

My wife and I did a trip in November/December 2022 - Berlin, Nuremburg, Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest and Prague. Budapest (4 nights) & Salzburg (2 nights) were our favorite places and we wished we had devoted more time to each. We stayed in the old town and found it to be very convenient to either walk or take a bus. Enjoy!

It's my favorite small city in Europe. I've been there three times... may hit it for the fourth time in December.

Yes. While it's touristy as heck, the location is amazingly beautiful, mountains in the distance a city built on a hill and the riverbank to sit and relax on a hot day. Definitely go.

When you say Vienna Budapest et al., what do you have in mind in terms of other cities? Salzburg is great but it may or may not fit within your current route. For example, I would not suggest to include it in a Prague-Vienna-Budapest trip. But if you are including southern Germany, then yes!!
