Is reso at Cafe at Kunsthistoriches Necessary?

Perhaps only at lunch time?
Since it's so beautiful and people linger for long time maybe I need to?
Planning early December visit.
I ask because another poster said she made a reservation for 11:45.

I was there the first week of December a few years ago - there was a gigantic line waiting to enter the cafe early afternoon. If it's possible, make a reservation.

I settled for a Leberkase at the Christmas market outside - it was quite good.

You can easily look at the cafe for free. I’m with the poster above - I’d eat at the Christmas market.

You can easily look at the cafe for free.

As I recall, there is a mezzanine level above the cafe where you can look down and appreciate the symmetry of the intricate designs of the floor.

A reservation is always a good idea, preventing you from waiting in a line.
As there are no reservations for lunch time accepted, best is to make a reservation for the latest morning time slot (11:45am) and start having lunch at noon.

I reach out to the cafe and ask how far in advance they take reservations.

Thanks again guys!
Great info!
We booked a 6p dinner.
One of us speaks German, so might take tour included with dinner price afterwards.
Not not great at walking around after a dinner with wine,so probably go mid afternoon to see the museum first.
