Innsbruck vs Seefeld in October for hiking base

We want to go hiking/walking in Austria the second week of October. Where would we have the best chance of decent weather?
Seefeld looks wonderful, but due to its elevation, should we pick a place at a lower elevation which might have better weather.
We rather stay in an alpine half board hotel and not in a city hotel.
If not Seefeld, is there a small town/village near Innsbruck so that we can go there if it is raining alot? Igls? or?
we will have a car.
Coming from dry So. Calif., we are looking forward to greenery/autumn colors.
Will all chairlifts be closed? we can hike up, but downhill is hard on the knees.
Thank you!

Generally speaking, there is a difference in temperature between Innsbruck, on the bottom of the valley, nearby villages and Seefeld, but when the weather is bad, it is equally bad everywhere. On average, Igls (900 meters over sea elevation) is 2 or 3 Celsius degrees colder than Innsbruck. It is not a bad choice as it has a bus every 15 minutes to Innsbruck and some easy walking in the direction of Lans. Lans is also quite nice and some, but not all the buses to/from Igls may call at Lans as well.

Since you’ll have a car, my suggestions would be:

Stay at the Gasthof Badl in Hall in Tirol 15 minutes outside of Innsbruck. We have stayed five times. Love it. Love the location.

Closer to Seefeld, stay in Mittenwaldat the Pension Schwalbennestl. We stayed here twice. Love Mittenwald.

We’ve been numerous times to the Bavarian and Austria Alps in October. It’s the best time to visit in our opinion. Crowds are less. Weather is similar to N.J... cool to warm days, chilly to cold nights and very littl rain. Our personal experiences.

Now, not in the areas you’re looking at, but I’d go to Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden, stay at the Pension Mayringerlehen and base here the entire time. Very convenient to hiking and walking, cable cars, lakes, including Konigssee, scenic alpine drives like Rossfeld Panorama Road, Berchtesagden, etc. Salzburg is a 30 minutesrive for less than ideal weather activities.
