Innsbruck to Niederdorf (Villabassa)/Dobbiaco for Lake Braise

Hello,

I will be in Innsbruck in the coming May. I'm planning to make a trip to Lake Braise in Dolomite from Innsbruck. What I've found that whether I make this trip from Bolzano or Innsbruck, I will have to make a change in either Villabassa or Dobbiaco and then get into the bus #442 to get to the lake. I'll be relying on public transport. I've two question regarding this trip from Innsbruck -

  1. What is the mode of transport I will be using to get to Villabassa or Dobbiaco from Innsbruck? Will it be Bus or Train? Which one will be more convenient?

  2. I want to visit Santa Maddalena village on the next day. So, I want to stay in Bressanone for a single night. Is there any public transport connection between Villabassa/Dobbiaco to Bressanone ? Is it a good decision staying in Bressanone ? Any suggestions?

Thank you

  1. Villabassa is marginally closer to Braies. Train from Innsbruck - sometimes with a change in Fortezza, but if you manage to take a train direction Lienz there is no change. In Villabassa the bus should stop in the central piazza, three minutes walking from the train station (take the road descending, just in front of the station). - The trip should not be overly complex, but it is quite slow.

Thank you for bringing my attention to Lake Braise. This is my favorite area of Südtirol. Think about Kronplatzgipfel.
