We are celebrating our 40th anniversary in Austria just after Christmas with our children and grandchildren, with time split between Innsbruck, a mountain village, and Salzburg. We honeymooned here at Christmastime and returned with our four children when they were ages 5-15 for our 20th anniversary. (We have also visited in summer and autumn.) Our family has grown, so this time around, we will be 10 adults and 4 young children. FIRST: We are trying to determine our best base for our three nights in the Innsbruck area. We are sticking with trains and local transportation (no cars). We'd appreciate recommendations for family-friendly lodging in OR near Innsbruck or Hall in Tyrol. SECOND: We'd also welcome any suggestions for mountain resorts in either Tyrol or Salzburg regions: we've used Zell am See/Kaprun and Badgastein in the past, but would appreciate any leads on lesser-known, family-friendly, more affordable mountain towns. FINALLY, suggestions for Salzburg area lodging are also welcome! We'll be in each of these areas at least three nights. THANKS!!
