Plan is to fly into Munich then take a train to Innsbruck for 2 - 3 days before taking a train to Salzburg for 2 days. Appreciate any guidance on logistics, sights to see, and lodging for these towns. NOTE: May want to avoid Munich due to Oktoberfest.
Munich - Hotel Schlicker. (Octoberfest is NOT near the old town, so we never have an issue as we love to stay in and explore the old town)
Innsbruck - Hotel Das Innsbruck
Salzburg - Hotel Goldgasse
You are most kind. Thank you for these suggestions.
Take the scenic train route from Munich via Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Innsbruck.
In Innsbruck do not skip the magnificent Hofburg, the court palace built as a small copy of the one in Vienna, and the Ambras castle, built in forms of German renaissance with an highly decorated Spanish hall (best visited on a good weather day). From the very centre of Innsbruck a combination of cable railway and cable cars brings to the top of the Nordkette mountains dominating the city. Again, good weather necessary. The museum of tyrolean tradition, mildly interesting, gives access to the court church with elaborate sculptures, with a rare exemplar of Reinassance organ still in working order.
I “second” Ambras Castle and The Nordkettenbahn in Innsbruck.
