Innsbruck Day 2

HI,
My wife, son (13 years old) and I will be in Innsbruck this coming August for 2 days. We arrive early afternoon on day 1 and plan on exploring the town of Innsbruck. We are wondering how best to spend our time on day 2. Our options so far are exploring Hall in Tirol, taking the cable car to the top of Nordkette or visiting the Seefeld area.

We will be coming from the Dolomites (4 nights). We have been to the Berner Oberland in Switzerland and Chamonix France before, so we are wondering if going to the top of Nordkette is the best use of our time. Would Hall in Tirol be enough to fill half a day or so? Is Seefeld worth taking the train to do some exploring/hiking?

We would love some feedback so we can decide on how best to use our second day in the Innsbruck area.

Thanks,
Ryan

I suggest taking the very scenic train journey to Mittenwald which is exquisitely charming with painted houses. Perhaps explore the nearby Leutaschklamm - a gorgeous family friendly river gorge.

Visiting Scloss Ambras is very worthwhile. We spent about 2 1/2 hours here this last December. Put this with Hall in Tirol for a full day out.

Dinner at Gasthaus Goldener Löwe in Hall in Tirol was excellent.

Nordkette is a good idea, unless there are low clouds.
Also Ambras is a good idea, includes a museum of medieval items. Don't know why, but nobody considers the Innsbruck Hofburg (Imperial palace), that is a reduced version of the Vienna one, it is a quick and nice visit.
The railway to Seefeld and Mittenwald is very scenic (sit on the left ascending and on the right descending), Mittenwald is nicer than Seefeld.
Everybody in this area likes Hall, but I do not find so interesting.
A short and nice trip is ascending to Igls with tram #6 and going down with bus J. A similar, not more interesting but longer trip is the STB tram to Fulpmes.
Another possible trip is ordinary train to Jenbach, steam rack train to the Achensee and then ferry on the lake.
