Innsbruck Christmas

My family is planning a trip to Innsbruck for Christmas markets. We are finding it is difficult to get information on bus and trams in the area. So if we are 15 minutes outside of Innsbruck what options for transport do we have. No car. Any help would be appreciated.

My Son lives a global lifestyle as such we will be in a B&B. Have not booked yet and want to be as close to Innsbruck as possible because our main reason is the Christmas markets. Thank you for responding...I just don't have where we are staying yet. Again, TY

I have stayed only in Innsbruck, but I had to take a bus out of the city - this was a number of years ago. Try googling Innsbruck bus map. You should get maps and directions for lines. And, while I have not been to Hall in Tirol, I understand it is a quick train ride.

I have been to Oberndorf. It's a very special place. However, I think it is outside Salzburg, not Innsbruck. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Sherry, have a wonderful Christmas market trip. I'm a bit jealous.

Thanks to all of you who have given me thoughts and ideas for my trip. I recently found my leukemia is in remission...so the Christmas trip is my bonus. Again, thank you all.

Hi,

First, congrats on your good news!

We stayed twice in Hall in Tirol at the Gasthof Badl in late Nov. for our Christmas Market trips. We also stayed here 3 other times during fall trips. LOVE it. Innsbruck is 15 min away by train or bus. Easy. The Advent Market in Hall in Tirol is a well worth experience also.

Absolutley love Innsbruck at this time of year!

The city tram and bus lines are run by IVB that has an extensive website. If you are in Igls (that is in the Innsbruck municipality) or in the centre of Lans the J bus runs every 15 minutes (30 at odd hours and festive days) to city centre; other villages on the south side of Innsbruck rely on post buses that have sparser timetable. Villages along the Stubaitalbahn have mostly 30-minutes service.
In my experience: do not forget that waiting a long time for buses in the winter cold may easily get unconfortable. If you are sensitive to cold maybe an hotel in town is a better choice. Of course, in summer there is no problem (I usually stay in Igls for its convenient bus service even if I have a car).
