Innsbruck Area Home Base Suggestions

We will be flying into Zurich and traveling to Innsbruck by public transportation in July. We are looking for suggestions for a good home base for hiking and sightseeing in the Tirol and/or Dolomite area. We are considering Mutters or Seefeld since we would like to be close to Innsbruck but out of the hustle and bustle of the city centre. We also would like ideas of the more popular or unmissable hikes or sights in the area as long as they are able to be reached by public transportation. We love Switzerland, but we would like to explore an new area of the world. Any suggestions and advice is greatly appreciated.

Been to Seefeld many times. We love the Hotel Princess Bergfrieden. Bring your bathing suit for swimming the pool complex.

Thank you for the recommendations and links; these are both really great suggestions! Are there any other areas that you would suggest we try from there that may require an hour or two travel? Like the Dolomites or any other areas in Austria or Germany?

I am pretty sure that some parts of the Dolomites in Italy are more impressive than the mountains around Innsbruck, but having passed that range by train only, I am the wrong person to be asked about hiking there.

I will add my thanks for the OP's question, the responses, and the links. I hope to make it to Seefeld in the next few years.

Bolzano is easily reachable from Innsbruck. Check out Gillian Price’s guides for hiking in theDolomites. I have stayed in Santa Cristina in Val Gardena and Badia and love them both.

Suedtirol.info/en for lots of details on the area.
