Innsbruck - airport to centre & ATMs

Please can someone advise me on how much a taxi would be from the airport to the centre of Innsbruck and is there a taxi rank or do they need to be pre-booked?

Also which ATMs are best to use? I understand we will need cash for the Christmas Markets?

Thank you in advance.

There is a bus every 15 minutes from the airport to the main train station. But yes, there is a taxi stand directly in front of the terminal.
For ATM's use a bank ATM, not a Euronext or other such rip-off ATM's.

Also which ATMs are best to use?

ATMs in Austria are everywhere; the "official" ones, operated jointly by all Austrian banks, bear this green-blue sign: https://www.blende7.at/images/Bankomat/bankomatlogo.gif

Private ATMs work as well. Every ATM operator is obliged to display extra costs just for the withdrawal, so you are given the opportunity to cancel. This does not include any fees charged by your bank or credit card company.

The ATM fees are the same everywhere in Austria. They depend largely on your bank and the type of card used. Fees for credit cards are usually higher than for debit cards, e.g. for Austrian debit cards there are no ATM fees at all.

Should you hit a "cash only" restaurant, don't turn away, ask for the next ATM in the vicinity.
(There was a report of a family in this forum, having skipped five restaurants before they found one accepting credit cards.)

There is no need to withdraw large amounts of cash.

It is perfectly good to use. ATMs in or directly outside of banks always belong to the "official" ATM network, even if they don't bear the green-blue logo.

That ATM is tge same bank as my bank in Hungary. I don't use their ATMs here as even with an account they add a silly high service charge ..... here. Important to me as while I live here, I still live off a US bank account (cheaper).

Mr. É, if you live with two currencies you should consider to open an online account with WISE. Then you can create two accounts, one for USD and one for HUF. You may freely transfer money between those, and the main advantage is that WISE charges much less for converting one currency into another.

thank you wmt.

When I take my US ATM card to the "right" bank ATM in Budapest (Raiffeisen) I get Hungarian forints with no fees and my US bank exchange rate is within 1% of the rate you find when google the exchange rate, so thats good enough for me and gets offset to some degree by the interest my account pays. My US bank also holds my pension accounts and with all the money in one place i get a lot of perks that make this arrangement worth the effort. I like dealing with living breathing human beings that answer the phone when I call and do me favors when I need them.

The Hungarian banks are terrible. They charge to make a deposit, they charge to take money out, they charge just to have the account. And I picked the worst for my account (didnt know), its actually an Austrian bank.
