info on hotel gutshof zum schluxen pingswang austria neede

I have read reviews of this guest house on trip advisor....one says to beware as the owners of this hotel have sold the hotel and are opening a hotel in Reutte. It indicates the new owners take over the first of the summer. Does anyone know when the new owners are taking over and if it seems to still be a good bet. I will be there May 23-27, 2014. ALso I have heard flies are a terrible problem there in summer. wILL May be cool enough so there won't be so many flies??

Thanks from Alabama

I have stayed at the Schluxen many times. You can't beat the location and I truly like the hike from the hotel to Neuschwanstein over the old Austrian/German border. The hotel doesn't change hands until the end of September. The new owners will not be there until about 4 months after you leave. I know we are still using this hotel for many of our tour groups. I don't remember there being a big issue with flies. But there are many animals, fields and pastures close by so I wouldn't be surprised to see some flies.

"ALso I have heard flies are a terrible problem there in summer. wILL May be cool enough so there won't be so many flies??" It was a mild winter, followed by, as of so far, a warm spring. Bring the DEET.

Wouldn't hurt to bring a sweater and light jacket, but you may not need them.

You might consider staying here, in Pfronten, especially if you are using public transportation. Pfronten is just a few minutes up the rail line from Reutte, in Germany. I've been to both Reutte and Pfronten, and Pfronten is, IMO, a much nicer town.

Pfronten is actually a collection of 13 small villages - Steinach, Ried, Berg, Weißbach, et al - that have grown together). I've stayed in Gasthof Aggenstein and would recommend it. It's not that long a walk from Steinach Bahnhof, and the bus that runs between Steinach Bahnhof and Ried Bahnhof stops nearby.

There are regular buses from Pfronten-Ried Bahnhof to Füssen Bahnhof and when you stay in Pfronten, you will get a pass for the bus.

I was there in August and again in September. No flies.

Dear Bama , we stayed here with a Steves' tour during September. Very nice. It was cloudy and rained lightly, taking away from the great view. Many fun hiking trails, as mentioned previously. If you get a chance ,do the nearby luge course...we are old foggies but had the time of our life on the luge. I think you will like this hotel. Bring a sweater and light, waterproof windbreaker with you no matter what it looks like when you begin your day, the weather is always subject to change in the mountains. Hank,

Thanks Novato!!!! I used to do some work up around there. My husband and I are in our sixties and have some extra lbs on us,,,,still think we can do the luge? Sounds like a blast. I am dying to do the shoot at the salt mines in Halstatt also but might need someone to help me stand up at the end of it!!!
Have fleece jacket and rain coat that folds up to go in pack. Thanks again.

How was your experience at the Schluxen in May? We have been there many times and have never been disappointed. Via correspondence from the current owners I know that they will be leaving at the end of September but I have been unable to find what will happen once Karin and Manfred leave. Did you hear anything during your stay? We may be returning to the area in late November and would like to stay there again but getting information on the future of the Schluxen has not been forthcoming. I "heard" it may cater only to "horse people" after Sept. That would be sad for all of us other travelers that have made memories there and would like to go back! Thanks. Kelly.
