How to Visit Schonbrunn Palace

Hello,

I will be in Vienna in early/mid May for a couple days as part of a trip to Central Europe. The days I will be in Vienna fall on a weekend.

So when visiting Schonbrunn Palace, should I pre-book tickets to the palace? If so, which ticket should I buy. Also, I plan on visiting the gardens in the morning to avoid crowds, as that is what I am most interested in.

With that information, what time slot should I book palace tickets, or should I just buy them on-site?

Would you say I should pre-book this?

I went in late October last year. I went early morning and bought the Grand Tour. I waited in line maybe 5 minutes.

We visited Schonbrunn Palace last June. We booked ahead online for an early morning slot, because we had read accounts of crowds in the summer months. Worked fine for us, and it did seem pretty crowded as we were finishing up with our visit around lunchtime. There are several options depending on which parts you want to see.

A friend and I went to Schönbrunn Palace last May. I don't remember if it was a weekday or weekend, but it was not very busy. My travel companion for that trip is VERY organized, so he of course had pre-booked tickets. I think especially if you are headed there on the weekend, it would probably be a good idea to book tickets. In pre-COVID days, we did not book tickets in March and were assigned to an entry/tour group within 20-40 minutes of when we checked in, but that info is not very useful in the post-COVID world and for a trip in May.
