How to get to Dachstein Ice Caves from Hallstatt

We’re trying to plan our time in Hallstatt. Would anyone be able to tell us how to get to the ice caves from Hallstatt? I understand there is a bus, correct? If so, no w often does it run and how long should we plan for an ice cave visit? Would a half-day be okay or is that too short? Any suggestions are very welcome.

Thank you for any suggestions.

I drove there. There is an hourly bus (line 543) from the south side of Hallstatt. A bit of an uphill slog from the cable car station to the caves, only so many tours a day. Close by, further up the mountain, is the 5 finger lookout point: https://dachstein-salzkammergut.com/en/

From downtown Hallstatt, go across the lake to the Hallstatt bahnhof and take the hourly train about 8 minutes to Obertraun Bhf. Or, walk approximately 1km south along the lake to the bus ZOB in Lahn and take bus 542 (again, almost hourly, approximately 10 minute) around the south end of the lake to Obertraun Bhf. That bus from Lahn stop at the Obertraun bhf and goes on from there to the Dachsteinseilbahn Talstation.

I believe that bus 543 is actually the bus that runs in the opposite direction, i.e., Dachsteinseilbahn Talstation - Obertraun bhf - Hallstatt Lahn ZOB.
