How many days I need in Vienna

Hello - I am planning my first trip to Vienna but not sure if I need 4 days or more. What are the must see places in Vienna and must do places as well. I know that this city has a lot to offer but I am unable to decide how many days/nights I need there.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
- Anil

Was in Vienna last October for four days and felt that I barely scratched the surface. Had time to see all the palaces, the Cathedral and a day of shopping in the city center. But no time left for any of the major art museums, walking tours or the Jewish sites. If I had to do it over again I would have given it a full week.

I was in Vienna for a full week which included a day trip to Salzburg and felt I was able to see all the sites on my list plus plenty more I discovered as I went, and time to just wander and relax. Much of my list pertained to everything to do with my favourite movie, The Third Man, so generally speaking I'd say 4 days would do for just regular tourist sight-seeing. Try to do a bit of research to figure out what appeals most to YOU.

Hi,

Vienna is one of those capitals where the first timer does either a superficial, overview trip of 3-4 days or a more detailed trip of a full week, depending on your time factor. If you have the time , I would budget a full week just in the city , no side trips, downtime factored in along with museum time of two hours or most of the afternoon, make a list of top priority sights (historical, cultural, art, music, museums, areas) to be tracked down. True, the city has a lot to offer...all depends on your priorities based on your interests.

We were in Vienna last year for 6 days. We liked it so much, and there were so many things we didn't get to do, that we're going back this year for another 5 days. We do like to explore in depth, and we have no taste for whirlwind visits.
It's hard to make recommendations without knowing your interests, but Vienna is famous for art and architecture. The Kunsthistorische Museum houses some of the finest paintings in the world. The Belvedere Palace is especially known for its Klimt collection, and it's gardens are lovely. There are many Art Nouveau buildings to be seen. Don't miss visiting a cafe and partaking of a pastry.

There is never enough time for Vienna , it is one of those places where the physical aspects of the city are inseparable from the incorporeal ones . It is a kind of state of mind , as well as a repository of great art , architecture , culture and history that all intertwine . Evidently , the more time the better . As my wife and I are retired , we are able to devote more time to our travels , than we would have been able to do if we were younger . We are headed back to Vienna this autumn for three weeks ( our second visit ) and we are certain it will not be enough . Although I have posted this link before , I do so again , hoping anyone with an interest will watch it . It will surely whet one's desire to experience this magical place " Vienna : City of Dreams " https://youtu.be/AFZBOTgL_Hk

I agree with everyone else. Vienna is one of those cities that, no matter how long you spend there, you will keep finding more and more to see and do. I spent 3 days there last summer and felt like I left too soon. Still lots on my list!

@ Anil...Whether you have only time for four full days this time or more, do the trip to Vienna, since on future trip you will see the place again. As very correctly pointed out above, Vienna is a destination to which one goes back for repeated visits...no doubt about that. I'll be going there again the last week in May.

Vienna is like a magnet,it keeps calling you back,we made our fifth trip in October for five days and can't get enough of it,so much history, museums, parks, churches and neighborhoods.I would recommend lodging near the city center or the Museums Quarter.Get the RS Vienna book,it will help you get an idea of attractions and where to stay.
