How feasible to try to see Schonbrunn Palace and the Klimt exhibit at Belvedere Palace

How feasible is it to try to see Schonbrunn Palace and the Klimt exhibit at Belvedere Palace in the same day? Is it worth it to try since we only have one day to visit?

Which exhibit? The one featuring the Bride at the upper Belvedere or Pigment and Pixel at the lower Belvedere?

I guess you could get to the museum right when it opens. See what you want to see then head to the palace.

That would be a tight day. We saw Schönbrunn on its own. With at least an hour and a half of travel (about forty minutes each way from Vienna's inner city) , you're already spending a lot of time getting there and back. The palace on its own requires about three hours to properly see, as the palace and surrounding grounds are massive. The Belvedere requires about two hours, assuming you're only seeing the Upper Palace. If you got a very early start, you could do both in one day.

Agree with Lindsey that this would be a tight, but doable day (and depending upon your deffinition of one day).

Upper Belveder opens at 9:00, so start there. Then do the Lower. Depart by Noon. Walk to the Karlsplatz U-Bahn. I don't know where specifically, but you should be able to grab a quick lunch along the way or inside the U-Bahn station (sorry, no eating on the U-Bahn itself). If you want to take the time (an hour) there is a great brew pub, Salm Brau just around the corner from the Lower Belvedere. There are also food venues at Schonbrun, but I have no experience with them.

Take the U-Bahn to Schonbrun. Just under 30 minutes. Arriving by 1:00 PM, you should then have 4+ hours to see the Palace before it closes at 5:30. You can then walk the gardens, which stay open until 9:00 PM. Head uphill to the Gloriette Schönbrunn for the view. Then, time for a late dinner in Vienna.

Also, look into timed entry and/or skip the line options for your busy day.

I think jkh has a good plan. It depends on how long you will linger at either place and what you consider a full day. If you are spending the night in Vienna, you should not have a problem visiting both places. If not, it will be a long day, but certainly doable.

Last month (April 2025), my husband and I were in Vienna and visited both Belvedere and Schoenbrunn on separate days. Both require timed entries. To make your plan work you’ll need to get timed entry tickets well in advance and could not rely on walk-up or buying tickets even a few days before. For example, we arrived at opening for Belvedere without tickets and were able to get an 11:00 entry to the Upper museum (the lower does not require timed entry). If your time in Vienna is really limited and you have to choose just one, I’d go with Belvedere.
