How does itinerary sound?

My family of 6 (youngest 17) will arrive in Munich 12/23 at 7pm and go straight to Salzburg.
We will stay in Salzburg until we will take the night jet to Florence on the 26th.
We will only be able to spend 1 full day in Florence on the 27th and take train to Rome on 28th where we will stay until the 1/2.

For Salzburg, we will spend the 24th at the Christmas market, make the Silent Night trek, have dinner (making reservation) and attending mass.
We would like to make a day trip to a experience some snow sports (tubing, snowshoe, sledding). Any suggestions that would be open on Christmas? Fun but scenic.
26th spend the day exploring Salzburg (Rick Steves walking tour) to catch the night jet at 9pm on to Italy.

Is this enough time? Should we add a day to Salzburg area?

Not much help but I’m so curious. How are you getting to Munich? I’m wondering why you didn’t go to Salzburg?

That would have been much easier right? When making the flight it was almost double the cost to fly into Salzburg as it was to fly into Munich. When flying 6 that’s a large amount to use somewhere else on the trip.

No one flies into Salzburg as the Munich airport isn't that far away. You made the right choice, don't worry.

December 24th is the day that Austrians celebrate Christmas, so things will be very quiet that day. Dec. 25 and 26 are also public holidays, so expect that many shops and restaurants will be closed. I would strongly recommend that you fly from Munich to Rome and skip the day in Florence. A night train is no fun. Overall, this trip seems very disjointed to me.

Is it disjointed because of the night train ? We had planned a daytrip to Florence from Rome. We figured the night train prevents the backtrack and adds a bit of adventure. Besides the flights from Munich to Rome are at least $150pp. Train at this point is appearing cheaper. Even more so if I can get the discount ticket.

Map out the trip in detail, like right down to the hour for parts of the trip, including deplaning, immigration, passport control, collecting luggage, waiting for trains, travel time, making your way to the next hotel, meals, bathroom breaks. Things go a lot slower when 6 are involved. Everything moves at the pace of the slowest person. For example, I don't think you'll be in Salzburg your first night until near midnight, maybe later. That means a late morning start on the 24'th. And a late flight to Florence on the 26'th means a late morning start on the 27'th, which means really limited time in Florence, and a lot of moving around and expense for little return.
