Good morning. We want to visit the Christmas Market in Vienna and also will send Christmas in Vienna. Any suggestions for accommodations? Would like to be staying somewhere that serves a traditional Christmas Day brunch/dinner. Tnx so much
Vienna is small enough that you don't need to worry too much about where you're staying, shop for rates and brands and whatever criteria you might have and it will work out fine. Check out my review of one of the Hiltons.
Also, there is more than one Christmas market in Vienna.
There are about 20 Christmas Markets in Vienna at different locations. It may be worth visiting more than one. Using public transport (tram, subway) is highly recommended, rendering the location of the hotel not relevant.
As stated above, there are about 20 Christmas Markets in Vienna. The best ones are Spittelberg, Karlsplatz, Schonbrunn and Altes AKH, in my opinion. If you plot these on a map, you will see they are in very different areas of the city. I recommend staying in the Spittelberg area, which is very atmospheric at Christmas. My parents are repeat customers at the K+K Maria Theresa, which is in a perfect location with nice rooms and a good breakfast.
Austrians celebrate Christmas on December 24. Things will start to shut down on Dec. 24 by 1 pm and will remain closed on Dec. 25 and Dec. 26. When I say "things" I mean most restaurants, most museums and all shops. What do you plan to do during this time?
As for a Christmas Day meal, maybe have a look at some of the fancier hotels, like Sacher, Bristol, Imperial or the Marriott on Parkring. They should be doing a Christmas food thing, but you need to reserve in advance.
Yes, I listed Karlsplatz above as one of my favorites. But I'm thinking you didn't go to the Altes AKH? Otherwise, you would have said the best food is at that market...
