hotels in salzburg close to start of panorama sound of music tour or train station?

Hi there!
My daughter and I are "seizing the moment" so don't judge us for a quick but meaningful trip to Salzburg just for the day! A trip in honor of the anniversary of her grandmother's passing - she was a huge SOM fan :)
We arrive late 11pm to Salzburg train station, need to get to hotel (budget because ....of trip) and up for 9:15 am Panorama SOM tour. Then we are off to Prague via train @ 3:15 pm. I know, I know! Should we stay near start of tour so we can store our luggage at hotel and retrieve after tour? Which hotel would you recommend (under $150, Dec 12th only) How easy is it to take cab or walk from train late night? TIA!

We stayed at the Hotel Mozart, Franz-Josef-Straße 27, 5020 Salzburg, Austria. The Hotel Mozart is about a 350 meter walk to the Panorama Tours across from Mirabellgarten anda 1.0 km walk from the Central Train Station. The walk to the trainstation is very doable but you may want to take a cab arriving late at night and not familiar with the town. (We arrived by air and took a taxi to the Hotel. Taxi prices were reasonable, bus prices cheap. We walked to the train station on departure.)

Current pricing: http://www.salzburg-hotels-center.com/salzburg-hotel-zentrum/preise.html
December 1 to 22 double room with breakfasts and taxes is 140 Euro. The various booking sites that quote lower rates are without breakfast. The breakfast was very good and our room spacious and comfortable (three winters ago).

Google Maps walking instructions:

Hotel Mozart Franz-Josef-Straße 27, 5020 Salzburg, Austria

Head northwest on Franz-Josef-Straße toward Schrannengasse 9 meters
Turn left onto Schrannengasse Destination will be on the left 300 m
Panorama Tours & Travel Headquarter Schrannengasse 2, 5020 Salzburg,
Austria

Another vote for Hotel Mozart. Very comfortable and convenient to the SoM starting point - and the breakfast was good as well.

We walked from the hotel to everything - The Fortress, Old Town, Augustiner 'Brewery', etc. The only time we needed a taxi was the evening we went to the Mozart dinner concert - we were dressed up a bit, there was rain and we were in a hurry. You could walk from the train station (15 min?) but at that time of night (and with luggage and in December) a cab ride is probably worth it.

Great town - too bad you won't see much of it :-)

Have fun!
