Any recommendations for hotels in Salzburg for a three night stay in October?

Also any not to be missed attractions?

Thanks

the main side faces the large University Hospital but for the full wow factor arrival use the church door in Augustinergasse, a narrow cobbled sloping street on the old town side. This leads down through the delicatessen arcade. To get drinks, take a stein off the trolley (make sure not the returns trolley!!), pay the cashier then give the ticket and stein to the man with the barrels.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza-Pitter and were very happy - easy walk to old town. Amazing view at the rooftop bar/restaurant. If you don't stay there, go to have a drink or meal, the view is amazing.

We went on a Sound of Music/Hallstatt tour - the Lake District near Salzburg is absolutely beautiful

Just about everyone you run into in Salzburg is like a travel guide, and they're a very accommodating bunch.
It's been a while since we were in Salzburg, but we prefer to stay in the city center in individuals' homes--bed and breakfasts.
We have also stayed 5 miles out of town on a farm, and rode city buses into the center city to do the tourism thing.
Check to see what is available on Booking.com or AirBnB.com.
I agree about Augustiner--drinking beer with The Brothers. It's one of the premier beer halls anywhere. We especially like to sit outside in the garden in Summer under the big trees and knock off a few en masse. (I no longer drink beer but come out of retirement at the Augustiner.

We stayed in a guesthouse during our stay in Salzburg ,Gastehaus im priesterseminar . We found it to be a 5-7 minute walk to the city centre and we loved our stay there.

We liked Die Weisse Taube. Great location, comfortable room and pleasant breakfast area, nice people. Very convenient.

I also have stayed at Gästehaus im Priesterseminar Salzburg on a couple of occasions and recommend it. Prices are quite reasonable for spotless, simple rooms in a seminary built in 1599.

I'm with SteveB with a visit to the Augustiner Bräustubl. It is a wonderful beer experience. It is hard to wrong with a hotel in Salzburg. Parking is an issue. We just returned from the Stadtkrug in the Linzergasse and parked at the nearby Linzergasse garage at the hotel rate. The standard rooms provide no view, but are fine. Jessica, one of your hostess/owners is American and friendly. Figure out your price range and how close you want to be to the city. The advantage of the Linzergasse garage is that it is relatively easy access from the A1 Salzburg Nord exit, with little stressful city driving involved. Enjoy your trip!

We were in Salzburg 3 days ago. We had a wonderful stay at Pension Katrin on Nontahler Hauptstrasse (Main Street). One of the finest B&B type of places we have ever stayed in. Wonderfully modern and exceptionally clean rooms and a wonderful breakfast (included). 95Euro/night. Pension Katrin is a 10 minute walk into the center of the old town. A bit more time if you walk past the abbey where Maria Von Trapp lived in 1920. 2 great dinners. First at Zwettlers at Mozart Plaza. Quite good. Second was da Giacomo about 100 meters from the Pension. You may need reservations here. Great Italian food.

We like gardens to we visited the fabulous Mirabell Gardens at Mirabellplatz and Hellbrunn Palace. Pension Katrin is on the #5 bus line. You can take a city bus from the Hauptbahnhof (main station) to about 100 meters from the Pension. 2.60Euros one-way P/P. Sandra will provide the bus stop. Note that the #5 bus does not go to the train station early enough on Sunday for an early train so we took the taxi for 12Euro.

For Hellbrunn Place, take the #25 bus in the opposite direction for about 10 minutes. Two cafes there. Plan for at least two hours to tour the grounds and the palace. Note that the #25 does not go back in front of the Pension so you have to get the correct stop from Sandra.

Finally, we took the Sound of Music tour. We originally thought that wasn't really necessary as we've seen the movie several times and we know all of the words to the songs. But, it was a splendid 4 hours. The long drive up into the Alps to see St. Michaels, the Basilica where Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer were married in the movie was quite scenic. The town was Mondsee. There was time for apple strudel and then back on the bus. Yes, there was a tour guide, music and singing on the bus.
