Hotels in Salzburg

Any recommendations on hotels in Salzburg for 3 nights in October 2016? Does either Old Town or New Town location have an advantage in getting around or easy access to key sights?

We stayed at the Weisse Taube Hotel in the Old Town - excellent location, friendly staff & a nice breakfast. We could walk to everything from this location, except we took a bus to the Hellbrunn Trick Fountains/Sound of Music gazebo.

Ron, we have been very pleased with Institute St. Sebastian (st-sebastian-salzburg.at, office@st-sebastian-salzburg.at).
Just reserved with them for September: 31pp with bath euro for quad ~ 40,75pp with bath euro for double. I've brought different mixtures of groups there on a couple previous trips and have been pleased with the accommodation, the price, and especially the location ~ just across the foot bridge and up the street from the Old Center ~ it's tucked away and quiet, but right handy to what you came to see ~ Salzburg is def one of our family's favorite places!!

In February we stayed at Hotel Stefanie where we had a HUGE superior double room. A tram ran right by it, but it was also only a short walk to Schwedenplatz.

Ron,

I stayed at Hotel Krone 1512 a few months ago and was very pleased with the accommodations (I also stayed there on a previous visit). It's an older hotel but the rooms were clean and well maintained. The bar adjacent to the front desk can get quite "smoky" in the evenings, but I didn't spend any time there so it wasn't a problem.

It's in the new part of town (which is also where the rail station is located), but a very easy walk across the bridge to the old town.

Ha! Sorry about the rec in Vienna. I meant to tell you Hotel Elefant in Salzburg. It is around the corner from the bus stop at Rathausplatz. Very convenient to arrive from the train station and to walk the old town.

We also liked the Weisse Taube and for the same reasons. From the train station it was a quick tram ride and a couple of minutes walk to the hotel. Nice people, excellent location. We thought the Salzburg pass was a great value and scheduled a lot of our sightseeing around that pass.
