Hotel Recommendations - Salzburg and Hallstatt

I was hoping people might provide some recommendations for the above places. My mom and I will be in Salzburg July 24-27 and then Hallstatt July 28-30. We sometimes (though not always) look at the RS recommendations out of his book but I found the Hallstatt recommendations somewhat lacking. In Salzburg, we're probably looking for something that is within walking distance of most places. My mom and I are fairly flexible -- we can share a bed, though twins would be nice -- we more care about a lake view, if we can get it, in Hallstatt. These two towns are the places my mom is most excited about visiting so price is also flexible though I'd love a "$$" recommendation.

Take a look at Hotel Elefant in Salzburg. Small, nice people, great location. We walked everywhere but took a bus to and from the station and the bus stop was quite close.

I always stay at the Boutique Hotel am Dom in Salzburg. Clean, modern, and great location. Excellent staff. There's a pastry shop right around the corner, a good restaurant almost that close, and a couple antique shops on the street. Anyplace in the old town is never more than a 10 minute walk away.

Check out Hotel Gruner Baum in Hallstatt and see what you think about it money wise. When we stayed there we did have a lake view and it was gorgeous.

A few years ago, I took a 2.5-week trip through Germany and Austria that included Hallstatt. I stayed at Seehotel Grüner Baum. It was the one splurge lodging for my trip... got a room with a balcony that faced the lake. It was awesome. I got up early one morning and watched the sun rise over the mountains/lake.

You'll be in Salzburg during the Salzburger Festspiele. Rooms in town will be pricy... and will go fast. Don't wait too long to book! I like Gästehaus im Priestseminar Salzburg. The priest seminary business isn't what it used to be, so this seminary rents out simple, clean rooms (with en-suite bathrooms) for a reasonable price; they offer a great typical German/Austrian breakfast.. It has no A/C!!!!!! That's fine with me, but if possible high temps around 90 would make you wilt without A/C, it's not a place you want to stay.
