hotel recommendations in Vienna convenient to the opera and art museum

Hi there. Just starting my research, but see that Pension Suzanne is already booked for my time frame (September 2015). Any recommendations in this part of Vienna? My husband and I are planning to hear as much music as possible and want also to go to the main art museum (and others - which may not necessarily be near the hotel, no problem).

Any suggestions? Would love to spend less than 150 Euros per night and would prefer a pension or hotel with breakfast included.

I can heartily recommend Pension Wild, which is in easy walking distance of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and a longer walk or short tram ride from the Opera.

When I see questions like this I like to point out two things:

  1. Vienna is a very compact, walkable city with excellent public transportation. When you say "this part of Vienna," the area that would be convenient would include hotels/pensions in Districts 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8. The postal code of the hotel will include this number; for example, District 1 is 1010; 2 is 1020, 3 is 1030, and so on.

  2. Use booking.com, which includes numerous filters (location, price, etc), shows whether or not breakfast is included, great photos and solid reviews. For me that is a much better source than the random recommendation on forums such as this. Once you have searched, come back with some options and I (and others, I'm sure) will give opinions.

Rick's Vienna guidebook gives you half a dozen nice options on Mariahilfer Strasse, between the Westbahnhof and the Museums-Quartier. There are more B&Bs on that convenient street, as well as several U-Bahn stops.

We always stay at K&T Boardinghouse--50 yards from the Mariahilfer Strasse Metro Station. It's just one stop on the Metro from The Ring, and there's plenty of nightlife and restaurants in the area. The price is reasonable at 79 Euros, and the rooms are huge and spotless. We were last there April, 2014.

Rick Steves used to stay there when he was in Vienna.

Thanks for all the input, friends. Of course I'm aware of R. Steve's recommendations and how to look online (booking.com, hotels.com - etc.). What I am looking for are some personal recommendations of folks who've actually stayed in accomodations in Vienna. Thanks so much for those who provided that info both in private messages and on this list!

An update to my post: I discovered that Pension Suzanne was available after all if you book directly with them. They were extremely easy to deal with, so I went ahead and booked. I know there are cheaper options, but I really liked the idea of being in such a central location. Really looking forward to this trip, which we are combining with the Rick Steves tour to the Loire and South of France!
