Hotel near Westbahnhof

I'm looking at a hotel that is located in the 7th Neubau district, about 5 minutes walk from the westbahnhof. Would this hotel be inconvenient for touring around Vienna?

Thanks in advance for your help!

We've stayed at the Stadtnest B&B on Stumpergasse, near Mariahilferstrasse, before. Loved it. Sounds like it might fit your description.

Is there a reason you want to stay near Westbahnhof - arguably one of the least attractive areas of Vienna? Public transport is excellent- stay closer to the center, please. The quality of you trip will be vastly improved. I prefer districts 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 as close to the Ring as possible. The 2nd also has good areas.

Hotel Kummer is directly on the Mariahilferstrasse, in between districts 6 & 7. It is also sits atop a U-Bahn stop that links you to Westbahnhof. Rooms are small but clean, prices are reasonable. Breakfast included.

Thank you for the suggestion, Ed, however it is booked. It sounded very nice according to its reviews.

Emily, thank you for your response. I was looking at the Ruby Marie, which has very good reviews but was unsure of the area around it. I'll definitely take a look at the Hotel Kummer.

Adjacent to the Westbahnhof there is a MotelOne (a chain hotel like Ibis or Holiday Express). I found it comfortable enough. Not far away there is Hotel Westbahn, a bit old but in good shape.

Hi,

There is also Hotel Fürstenhof across the street from Westbahnhof. Westbahnhof is served by 2 U-Bahn lines, the U-3 gets you to Stephansplatz, where you can take the "Graben" or the "Kärtnerstrasse" exit. Going to Schönbrunn, Zentralfriedhof, Staatsper, Hofburg, the Army Museum, are all direct from Westbahnhof.

Hi,

You're welcome.

Inside the Westbahnhof "mall" are numerous shops and facilities, such as the post office, two of them, where you can go to the ATM, not "Kontoauszüge" (that one won't do you any good) but "Auszahlungen" which is the one you need for cash withdrawals, plus some very nice eateries and bakeries, etc. The place is patrolled by two man police patrols, compared to the past, ie, prior to the migrant crisis of last Sept, Westbahnhof at night, say 2100 hrs, is now pretty dead. Since the migrant crisis there are video cameras everywhere, literally, esp at the aimed at the top of a staircase. It says so in the signs...Videoüberwachung or Videoüberwacht.

If you want stay a few mins away from the station, say down on Mariahilferstrasse, either close to the U-Bahn stop Zieglergasse or Neubaugasse, (the 2nd station away from station Westbahnhof) there are two Pensionen in that area...Pension Anna and Hargita. Of the two the farthest one from Westbahnhof is ca 10 min walk, which you can access the underground passage ca. half a block up towards the station from Kaiserstrasse, the cross street (in Ger. the Querstrasse) from Mariahilferstrasse.....all very convenient indeed.

The draw of Westbahnhof boggles my mind. I'd rather stay in just about any other area of town. People who suggest this area don't really know Vienna very well, in my opinion.
