Hotel family rooms in Vienna city center

Dear all - I'm looking for recommendations for hotel family rooms in Vienna, for 2 adults + 2 kids, in June 2019. We'd like to stay in a 3-star+ hotel with breakfast and A/C, not an apartment. Looking for a suite-type accommodation, with privacy for adults and kids - i.e. a separate bedroom with 2 twin beds for kids. Has anyone found something like this in the / walking distance to city center, ideally under $350/night? Very few options come up via search engines once you enter these filters, so thought I'd check via the forum. Many thanks in advance!

Elena,

Have a look at Hotel Pension Suzanne to see if it fits your criteria. It's in a great location by the State Opera, the rooms are very nice, the staff are wonderful and they serve a great breakfast. There are lots of restaurants in the vicinity including a Vapiano's right across the street, which I enjoyed on a couple of occasions. The departure point for the Hop On / Hop Off buses is right in front of the hotel or across the street by the Opera house.

This is no surprise to me.

A/C is not common in Vienna, especially not at 3-star accommodations.

A suite is rarely offered at 3-star places.

The city center is the most expensive area. There is no need to stay in its walking distance. You cannot visit Vienna's sights just by walking, anyway. Most important is a close access to public transport which allows you easy, fast, and safe (even in the night) travel to everywhere you want.

No offence, having stayed in Vienna for a longer time, I have noticed that it is a common misconception of US tourists that moving around in the town means walking or a HOHO bus, given that they don't have a car here. As most Americans have never experienced a well organized public transport system, you will see how easy it is to use once you get acquainted with it.

The HOHO bus is a total rip-off in Vienna as 1) the buses can’t go where the sights are and 2) the public transportation is excellent and easy to use.

Traveling around Vienna by using a combination of the U-Bahn and the tram is very convenient, accessible and just plain easy. I do all the time aside from walking a ton, but I am not against using HOHO though I haven't done that myself....depends on your purpose.

"European rip offs. HOHO being one of the them."

That's a matter of opinion. I often enjoy taking the HO/HO buses just to get a general overview of some of the sights, and it's also a good way to get a few pictures. It's also a good way to rest my aching back and legs for a short time. Rip off or not, I'll continue using the HO/HO buses in cities I visit.

For essentially the cost of one day of HOHO in Vienna, going to mediocre attractions, you can buy a full week’s transportation pass for the entire public transportation network. Good views and warm seats included!

HOHO buses are not a European ripoff -- you can find them in most/all American tourist cities. (We see them all the time in San Francisco.)
Agree that the Vienna transit is excellent and varied -- sometimes we just get on a tram and ride to the end to see another part of the city.
