Hop-On Hop Off Pass in Vienna

Hi,

We have three days in Vienna and can't wait. I have seen older posts about the worthiness of the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Pass but nothing current.
It is worth getting it, even for a day? I think we have figured out that the Vienna Pass is probably not worth the expense.

Thank you

I don't know about the hop-on-off bus pass - but, I strongly suggest you follow Rick's self-guided Ringstrasse tram tour for your initial orientation. It's cheap ($2 or so) and circles the entire Old City where most sights are.

The Hofburg, the museums, cafes, and most of the main sights are within easy walking distance from the Opera House - half-mile or less. The pedestrian-only Karntner Strasse takes you straight to St. Stephen's Cathedral. Rick's self-guided walk of Vienna is only about 1-mile distance.

I second BradleySmith's suggestion. The audio and maps for the ringstrasse tram tour and walking tour can be downloaded from this site at https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/audio/audio-tours/austria-germany

Public Transit is an excellent option in Vienna if you wish to visit sights further out from the center. For example:

To see Schloss Schonbrunn, you can catch the U4 from the U station in Karlsplatz, two blocks south of the opera house. I loved the hedge maze in the formal gardens here.

To see Schloss Belvedere and the botanical garden, you can take the D tram from the opera house. One of my favorite paintings is here: Gustav Klimpt's The Kiss.

cd,

I thought the Hop On / Hop Off Bus was worth the ticket, but of course that's a matter of opinion. The stop for those seems to be right across the street from the State Opera House. I thought it provided a good overview of the city, and since my hotel was also in that area it was very convenient.
