Is it obvious how to walk the Monschberg route from the Hohensalzburg to the Augustiner brewery on foot? Our first afternoon/evening in Salzburg, I thought it might be fun to explore the Altstadt, then take the funicular to the fortress, then walk across to the brewery. (And eventually back down to our car which will be in the Altstadtgaragen.) It looks confusing on a map but there must be signs?
From the fortress, just a quick walk down to the river, follow that walking path all the way to Lindhofstraße, then a short walk up the hill. If not inclined to walking back to the parking garage, when leaving just keep going up the hill to Aiglshofstraße and catch the #8 bus to the parking garage (direction would be Salzburg Süd). Note that the bus stops running around 8pm.
Stay on the hill. Walk from the Hohensalzburg exit under the Schartentor towards the Museum der Moderne Salzburg Mönchsberg (good views from here, pics) then towards the Hotel Schloss Mönchstein and down the hill on the main road to the Augustiner Bräu (from the door steps down into the hall and Augustiner. Think it opens at 15:00). Check out Google maps. I have gone this route several times. Not too difficult. Pick your route back to the Altstadtgaragen, but looks like a 20 min walk.
Thank you! This is so helpful! I had been looking at Google Maps but needed a little guidance on the route and this is it.
Even tho I had done this walk with my daughter pre-COVID, I couldn't figure out how to do this walk last year.🤔 No staff could direct us, which I thought was odd, because I knew there was a way. So we walked from below, but it's much more scenic from the top on the hill. And- the walk back to the Old Town along the river is just so beautiful.
