Hi,
Should we purchase tickets directly from the Hohensalzburg site or use the Salzburg Card? We want to be there when it opens. It looks like you can only use the Card upon arrival and not with advance tickets. Should we even buy the Salzburg card?

The Salzburg Card gives you free travel on public transport in Salzburg and free entry to some sights. But the new Guest Mobility Card, which you get for free from your hotel, provides you with free travel on public transport not only in the City of Salzburg but in the whole State of Salzburg. So it is a bit difficult to do the math whether the Salzburg Card really pays off.

I've never had tickets ahead to go up to the fortress either by the lift or the funicular. Just rock up and go.
For the Salzburg car check very carefully what exactly you really want to do and it up. You may find you save money or more likely won't. All depends on you.
