We are getting to Salzburg later in the evening and we want to do as much as possible before everything closes. For the Hohensalzburg Fortress, I see that the hours in May-June are 9am - 7pm. However, in the Rick Steves book, it says the grounds of the fortress are open until 9:30pm. Does "grounds" mean up in the castle, just not in the inside museums? And the book says the funicular runs until midnight, but the Fortress website says it closes at 8pm.
Does anyone have experience going to the Hohensalzburg Fortress and using the funicular later in the evening? How does closing time work?
