Ho HO pass

We will be purchasing the Vienna Pass to get into all the places we want to see, but I'm not sure of the HO HO pass. Is it necessary to get around? I've read that it is fairy easy to walk around in Vienna. We are interestd in going to places like Schonbrunn Palace and Belvedere Palace, St. Stephens, Vienna Opera House etc. We really love the old buildings and history and not really interested in the museums. I apologize if this has been asked before. We will be staying at the Art Hotel Vienna. Thanks in advance for any info and positive feedback :)

We did the bus in Vienna a few summers ago. We used it to go to Schönbrunn and then took a loop around town after touring the Palace for a few hours. Sometimes you just need to rest your weary bones, know what I mean.

Hi,

Based on what you list, I would suggest that the Ho Ho pass is not needed. St Stephens (Stephansdom) and the Opera House (Wiener Staatsoper) are within walking distance of each other on a pedestrian only passage ie, Kärntnerstraße. Belvedere Palace (Schloß Belvedere) is close to the main train station, Wien Hbf. , ca ten- fifteen min walk. Getting out to Schönbrunn can be done by the U-Bahn and the tram. The tram stops closer to the Schönbrunn grounds. I've taken both to reach Schönbrunn. What is the closet U-Bahn stop to your hotel?

As nice as the Art Hotel may be, its connection to public transport is suboptimal.

There are two bus lines in the vicinity: 14A (north-south) and 59A (east-west). Neither a tram stop nor a subway station is in reasonable walking distance.

You will need a public transport pass. Try to get acquainted with the Viennese public transport system which is very well organized. Shortly you will see that using it will give you more choices and flexibility than a HoHo pass.

Also note that the sightseeing buses are not allowed in the Altstadt area within the Ring, where many notable sights are.

I always look at the folks on those buses and think they are fools for wasting their money on a bus in a city that is so walkable, with so much excellent public transport and where most of the sites aren't reachable by bus anyway.

As noted above, your hotel is located quite a distance from sites in an interesting choice for a neighborhood. You will need to familiarize yourself with public transport anyway.
