Hiking in Vienna?

My Vienna questions are coming fast & furious as the arrival day quickly approaches. I am going with my 28 year old daughter who loves hiking. Unfortunately I am calendar challenged and find I cannot do a whole lot of hiking as I am marginally closer top 100 than I am to 50. Walking, OK. Hiking, not so much.

Also, lovely woman that she is, she has been known to get lost in a phone booth. A meandering route could lead to a not good outcome

Can anyone suggest safe, hiking place(s) where perhaps I can sit and nurse a latte while she wastes all of her energy?

(I say "wastes" because as we all know, when you are born, God gives each of X number of heartbeats to use in our life. When you exercise, what happens to your heart? RIGHT!. Rest. Save those beats. That healthy stuff will kill ya!

I did a very nice hike the last time I was in Vienna through one of the vineyard areas. If I remember correctly, I took the tram to Nussdorf, hiked up to the ridge at the top of the fields and came back through Grinzing. I was dead reckoning as I tend to do, so did have to backtrack a couple of times, but there was a well marked regional trail that I could have taken.

An easier option would be along the Danube or Donaukanal (this is the part near downtown). You can walk up one side, cross a bridge, and walk back on the other side.

The Prater (park with the big famous ferris wheel) is also criss-crossed by nice hiking trails.

Finally, you can make a nice hike by circumnavigating the Schonnbrun palace. I went up to the Gloriette at the top and then circled around by the zoo back to the bottom where the palace is.

You can find nice cafes in any of those areas. Do try a wiener melange (Vienna version of a cafe au lait).

The City of Vienna maintains 12 City Hiking Trails of different length. They all have in common that their respective starting and ending points are at a place where public transport is available.

This is the list: https://www.wien.gv.at/english/leisure/hiking/paths.html

For detailed routes use the official online map of Vienna: https://www.wien.gv.at/stadtplan/en/
On the left you will find a column "Show on the map". Expand the section "Art and leisure" by clicking on the plus sign, do the same for subsection "City walks". Place a check mark on "City hiking trail", and all hiking trails will be shown in the map. You can zoom then into the map ad libitum.

If you expand "Traffic and transport" and check the item "Public transport" you will see all the tram, bus and subway lines with their stops.

This online map is very powerful; there is a plethora of information which can be displayed.

The aerial pictures are taken with a special camera from a low flying airplane. They might look disappointing because of the lack of the green color you would expect for e.g. parks. The reason is that these pictures are deliberately taken at the end of winter when the trees have no leaves, so you can spot details normally hidden by their foliage.

I would only add that, as Vienna is nowhere near the mountains, it is really walking not hiking.

I find Vienna most suitable for wandering/walking. I spent three days and have walked in various neighbourhoods at least 10km a day. So, the best bet for hiking is Villages of the Vienna Woods like Kahlenberg.
