Hiking hut to hut in Austria vs. Switzerland

Hello. Our family of four, 2 adults and 2 teens plan to hike this summer in the alps. We want beautiful and moderately challenging hikes, delicious food, and wonderfully atmospheric accomodations. 7 to 8 days in all. Would prefer not to be in touristy areas but not so remote either. Will probably go hut to hut mixed in with a town or resort evening in between. Would be curious to hear what folks think that have been to both countries hiking.

Don't know about hut to hut, but Lech am Arlberg in Austria is wonderful for hiking and has wunderbar food and drink. Trails are all marked and color coded as to level of difficulty (there are a LOT of trails). If you stay in Lech you get the free Lech Card which gives you free access to all of the lifts, gondolas, and hiking buses. It is truly beautiful there, we stayed 5 days but could easily have spent 10 days or more. We stayed at Pension Juliana...excellent place and Claudia is absolutely the best.

Dear Alex. This is the first time that I am asking for information and I really appreciate your suggestion. Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience. I will look closely at the places you mention. It sounds beautiful and delicious....just the combo we are looking for! Eric

Eric,
We absolutely loved it there and it is much cheaper than Switzerland. It is beautiful beyond belief. They were also very welcoming of our Jack Russell, Thor. You can PM me if you want further info as to the excellent places to eat, etc.
