Heuriger Wine Pubs in Vienna

Hi,
We are visiting vienna over 3 days and 2 nights in end october. Will be staying at a BnB on the Neubaugasse (Rosa Linde if any one has heard of it or been there). Wanted to ask about the best way to get a Heuriger experience during my stay.
Best Place to go ? time to get there ? transport ? etc etc.
thanks in advance.

These are two Heurige which are easily reachable by public transport from the place you are staying, i.e. you walk down Neubaugasse to Mariahilfer Strasse (two blocks) and take the U3 subway (orange line) in either direction.

U3 uptown to "Ottakring" (terminal station):
Heuriger 10er Marie (closed on Sunday)

U3 downtown to "Volkstheater", change to tram line D to "Nussdorf" (terminal station).
Heuriger Schübel-Auer

What is a traditional Heuriger exactly?

Heurige open mostly in the afternoon (earlier on weekends) and close between 11pm and 12am, so everybody can use public transport for going home.

Best way to get a heuriger experience is to go in the late afternoon on a sunny day. I suggest taking the 38A from the Heiligenstadt U4 stop. Take the 38A bus to Kahlenberg, which is a hilltop covered in vineyards with a terrific view of the city and the Danube. Walk down the hill on the Stadtwanderweg (city hiking trail) 1. This well footed path takes you through some woods and into the vineyards. It is truly lovely. Stop at Mayer am Nussberg for a glass of wine in the middle of the vineyards. Then end your walk at Feuerwehr Wagner, one of my favorite heuriger. Schuebel Auer - mentioned above - is also lovely and at the end of the walking route.

What you don't want to do is end up in Grinzing - a lovely little village within Vienna - but completely overrun with tour busses.

i would also add that Oct. 26 is a National Holiday in Austria so be aware that some things might be closed that would normally be open.

Finally, Neubaugasse and surrounding streets are a fun area known for shopping. I walk around that area frequently.
