As stated in a previous post, I will be in Vienna in December. While outdoor dining will be not happening, I was wondering if there is some indoor Heuriger in the winter? I really would like to experience Vienna's wine, but in a relaxed and casual atmosphere with a small meal or snack. I am NOT a wine connoisseur by even the wildest stretch of the imagination, yet I do enjoy a nice glass from time to time and would like to find some to bring back as presents.
Yes, I’ve been to heurigens in Vienna at Christmastime for indoor meals and drink. You can see Google images.
Can you please recommend a/some Heuringer(s)?
TIA, Joe
I'm so sorry but not at all. I have family living there and just follow them. Maybe Emily will come along.
Two traditional Heurigen, both about 300 years in business:
https://www.10ermarie.at/en (best Surschnitzel in town)
https://www.schuebel-auer.at/
Both locations have direct access to public transport, therefore easily reachable from everywhere in the city.
Heurigen are now year round institutions for the most part, as they all have indoor and outdoor seating. Buschenschank, however, are strictly outdoor.
I second both of wmt1's recommendations, particularly Schübel-Auer. In addition, I am a big fan of Feuerwehr Wagner and Mayer am Pfarrplatz. If you want to get good wine as gifts, however, maybe go to Wein & Co, which has several locations in Vienna for good local recommendations.
Thank both of you. This gives me direction.
