Hallstatt daytrip from Vienna

Hi, sorry I have to ask this question that was kind of answered regarding doing day trip on our own but this is a tour company. I just saw this tour called ‘whitealligator tours.com’ regarding a daytrip to Hallstatt. I wonder if anyone has taken it before. Just trying to figure out if we should do it or just leave this for another trip. Thanks.

I looked at the website for that tour. It would be €230 for two people, not including meals. They give no information about how much time you spend in the van, how much time you have in Hallstatt, and what time you return to your hotel. I would want to know those details.

OeBB is offering Sparscheine tickets for dates in late June for €24, for the journey taking 3 hours 18 minutes with one change. Assuming the return is similar, that would be €96 for two for the day. And there may be a special "day return" ticket price, but I am not familiar enough with OeBB to find one. This way you would have control over your time and how you spend it.

However, either way you get to Hallstatt at mid-day when it is most crowded (with other day-trippers and tours). It is not the peaceful charming town you see in the photos. This is why people advised on your other thread that a daytrip from Vienna is not a good idea.

I will admit that the photos of Hallstatt give me that "I want to go THERE!" feeling as well. We were in Vienna for eight days last September (on a home exchange, somstaying for free) and I looked into a day trip to Hallstatt. After considering the 3+ hours each way on the train, and reading many comments on how crowded the town is during the day ( thanks to day trippers and bus tours) we gave up on the idea. And I am very glad we did, as there was plenty to do and see in Vienna to keep us busy.

Hallstatt is gorgeous--but not in the middle of the day when it's filled with daytrippers, and not when you have to spend hours getting there and back, only a portion of which will be scenic.

Save it for your next trip and spend a night there to fully appreciate the beauty.

A day trip to Hallstatt is only feasible from Salzburg or Gmunden.
